The Courtyard of Fort Wayne project will consist of 36 apartments targeted towards helping young adults who are aging out of foster care. Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth (SAFY) will be overseeing the project , and will provide an array of services  to assist residents in establishing a lifestyle of work, recreation and community development. The Courtyard is the first such housing project in Indiana.  Donna Bolinger, Director of Business Development for SAFY, says, "The Courtyard gives former foster youth an opportunity to 'seize the day', make a home of their own, and have hope and a future." Former SAFY client Robert Duran,(20),  is anxious to be able to fill out an application for an apartment. "I want a home. I want something of my own to be proud of, a fresh start, a home that is a blank canvas to fill up with what makes me the person I am," says Duran, who is a member of The Courtyard Planning Commitee.

Supportive services available to residents living in The Courtyard will be managed by SAFY in partnership with Park Center Community Mental Health and other providers in the community offering specialized assistance to those in need. Available on-site counseling, assistance with GED  or high school diploma attainment, employment and life coaching for work and well being, and post-secondary education are some of the ways residents will benefit. The Courtyard will have state-of-the-art amenities such as a commercial teaching kitchen. exercise room, arts and crafts room, and a working on-site urban garden.

Ideal Suburban Homes will be overseeing the construction of The Courtyard project which will be completed in June 2014.
